INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

Authors (doctoral workshop)

The workshops are specifically targeted at young researchers who are currently undertaking their doctoral thesis. The purpose of the workshops is to serve as a forum for active and constructive debate, aimed at improving the quality of the doctoral thesis projects presented. The doctoral students will have the opportunity to share their research initiatives and to receive valuable feedback from an expert panel in the form of comments, suggestions, additional theoretical approaches, methodologies or bibliographies of interest.

For a finer usefulness of the workshop, it is highly recommended that the thesis projects have attained a moderated stage of maturity. That is, they should be advanced enough (not just chosen the topic, but also defined the gap in the literature that the thesis tries to fill, the research question and the theoretical framework), but not in the final stage of the project (findings have been already achieved and the final document is being finished).

Submission of proposals:

Related to Thesis Projects, proposals written either in English or Spanish are accepted.

The manuscript of the Thesis Project should include the following sections:

  1. Title and abstract
  2. Introduction: justification of its interest, research gap to be covered, summary of the predictable contribution.
  3. Predictable theoretical framework to address the problem.
  4. The proposed hypotheses.
  5. The methodology to be used in the empirical study: data collection strategies, measures and techniques.
  6. Expected results.
  7. Main conclusions of the submitted proposal, assumed limitations and implications.
  8. Specific bibliographic references about the theme (minimum of 10 relevant references).

Dynamic doctoral colloquium:

The objective of the colloquium is to help doctoral students improve their projects, providing them with new ideas to explore.

The colloquium will take place during a full day scheduled on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

The program includes several talks/debates on key topics for doctoral training structured in two blocks. A first block will cover important aspects of the research design. A second block will include a discussion of topics related to the professional academic career.

Throughout the day, the doctoral students will present their thesis projects. Each thesis project will be assigned a “discussant” who will offer detailed and critical comments aimed at refining the project. Likewise, the rest of the workshop attendees will have the opportunity to offer comments and discuss the research proposals.

Doctoral students have a maximum time of 5 minutes to present the key points of their proposal based on a summarized presentation in poster format that must be brought printed.

Students will be informed of the number assigned to their poster and therefore of the time slot in which their presentation will take place when registering in person for the doctoral workshop on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Poster recommended format:

  • Size A0, portrait orientation.
  • Content – Make sure that the poster explains your research as a standalone display.
  • Graphs and Pictures –1 or 2 graphs/pictures that are essential to your message.
  • Keep it simple and attractive.
  • Word Count – Less is more.
  • The poster should be a conversation starter.
  • The objective should be to reel people in for a meaningful discussion or just a few questions and answers.
  • Presentation time: maximum 5 minutes.
